Poolside Identity: A Trap Banger
Anime a e s t h e t i c s and rap are a match made in heaven, yet it doesn’t sound like one at first. The flexing and vulgar lyrics are a beautiful contrast to the kawaii-anime-UwUness found in most anime music used for these mashups. Really changing these rap songs to something fundamentally different, from something you would bump with the homies to something you can’t let the homies know about.
Poolside identity opens with almost solo vocals with only a droning bass underneath, this shows the first thing that is fairly unusual about nakinyko’s mashup. Most anime/rap songs use the anime “beat” and the rap vocals (sometimes both but the rap takes priority). Unlike in “if tupac had an anime” and “double tea” where the rap lyrics are completely undermined by the kawaii-anime-decadence of the beat. In poolside identity the rap beat is used changing the song to a more trap sounding style than double tea which has more in common with the original future bass song.
As the horns come in at the chorus of the song it has fully transformed into a trap banger. Almost sounding badass when you forget how funny the combination is. I truly feel this song has more in common with panda by desiigner (terrible name) than the original sample. I am amazed by how well this works hats off to nakinyko.
