Membrane Keyboards & The Benefits of a Much Disliked Technology.

I am someone who quite enjoy the feeling and usage of a keyboard much often used by every person which doesn't much care for the one they use. The membrane keyboard works in a way I do not quite understand. I believe there is a squishy silicone or rubber in a dome shape which get's depressed, not much differently from keyboard enthusiasts reading this piece, and then something touches something else and electricity goes through. I'm of most certainty a mistake on my part was made in that section of which this one follows.

The Benefits:

There are a number of benefits to these keyboards. Most of the people who will be awfully upset by my opinion only see one, however I can assure you there are in fact many.

Cost

This benefit seen by everyone is of course the cost. A membrane keyboard can be had (and should be had) for a small price. This is not my reason for purchasing one, as I don't believe I ever have. I have however purchase a mechanical keyboard in the past, and have received one for free. Neither of these are in a radius of half of a thousand kilometers as I am gladly using a keyboard older than either and with an action most lacking the mechanisms to be of their type.

As it is an example of the cost that my family had at one point 3 of these perfectly functional keyboard in a drawer, this drawer might house those keyboard half a thousand kilometers away at this moment. I do not know why we had 3 keyboard, all of full function as mentioned, in this drawer instead of using these. For my father had not a better keyboard than these. But it stands as a testament to the affordability of these typing devices.

Spill Resistance Through Environmental Ruin

This benefit in cost continues into another that all bellow a certain cost have which is the ability to withstand any stain or damage. One may simply have a drawer with 1 to 2, or even 3 if preparing for a flood, keyboards and one may even use them in a bath for a short duration, after which of course the keyboard may break. Then one may simple go the the drawer and use another to place an order for another keyboard to use in a similar case.

This, however, comes at the cost of a keyboard having been not nearly as useful as before and the waste of the manufacturing. The environmental ruin may however not be as disastrous through the fact that they are not as problematic to produce (I believe as a matter of assumption) as the more expensive premium mechanical keyboards. These are also often collected, multiplying their environmental cost. Not a soul would collect the dell KB212-B, a undisputed classic of course, making it avoid this environmental collection burden.

The Surprising Lack of Said Ruin (If No Spills Occur)

These keyboards, if not spilled on, are very durable and long lasting. They keep clean to the eye due to the lack of gaps of major size between the keys and the membrane system keeps well over time. I've of course had them break in the past but so have my mechanical keyboards in shorter a time.

This is naturally not a study with an N greater than 1 but we should know they are not fragile as such other cheap electronics might be given one buys from a brand of good standing. This might have changed in recent years, however I see it fit to say they, even a few years past, are of good quality and construction.

Those Opinions Held By Me Alone

The following section in this piece written or the purpose of avoiding my work is that of personal opinions held by a person not especially interested in keyboards, but in my personal taste in working. One may disagree and is likely to do so.

The Feeling

I quite like the feeling of typing on this silicone sheet. It is rather responsive enough and keeps itself out of the way. I feel it most definitively pleasant. There is not much more to say than that about a feeling best described as "just typing" so I will not attempt to do so.

The Sound

The sound is also of a great liking to me, it's a classic sound of which there is much loathing on-line. I however think it is quite pleasant, the deep clack is quite satisfying and much better than the keyboard I first bought of my own, the sharp click is no longer to my liking as it was when I was 14.

I believe it to sound quite good and much like the red switched corsair keyboard given to me by a person I had at that time just met. As with a feeling there isn't much more to be said so I will not attempt to do so.

The nostalgia

I feel much enjoyment of past times to the keyboard of this type. Others might feel similarly to the IBM keyboards of the 80s (and perhaps 90s too, I am not certain of the exact years). I believe it to play a role in my liking for them that I as a child long ago used these keyboards to play many a game.

This is naturally very of the subject but I see it as a thing of import to mention.

To Conclude & Return To Work

I am finished talking of the keyboards which I have written this piece about and will now move back to the use of them for more important matters.

I hope you enjoyed words of this piece more than the meaning of them, as I was sure to myself.
